What’s available?
More and more of us are looking to Renewable Technologies to help reduce both our fuel bills and greenhouse gas emissions. HMS Ltd. can help, as we install Solar PV panels, Ground Source Heat Pumps and Air Source Heat Pumps.
A Ground Source Heat Pump (GSHP) takes heat from the ground using pipework coils arranged horizontally in trenches or vertically in boreholes. The temperature of the ground below 1m in depth stays fairly stable at 8-12°C.
An Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) takes heat from the outside air. The air can be much cooler than the ground, and so the efficiency is less than that of the GSHP, but as collector pipework installation is not required, the capital cost is much less.
The temperature of the ‘output’ water from a heat pump is typically 45°C – 55°C, much less than that of a boiler, and so larger radiators, fan convectors or underfloor heating are often used.
Government assistance
The Government offers financial assistance in the form of Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), and the scheme is administered by OFGEM, the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets. This is a non-ministerial government department and an independent National Regulatory Authority.
HMS are fully MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) accredited and can apply for the grant on your behalf.
